Damages (Caused by Customers)
Richards Mercantile evaluates each incident individually and determines the appropriate course of action based on the circumstance.
In most cases, Richards Mercantile will not require a customer to purchase or pay for merchandise that has been accidentally damaged.
However, management may elect to seek reimbursement from a customer when:
· The item is of significant value
· Negligence contributed to the damage
· The circumstances of the warrant recovery of the loss
When damage occurs, Richards Mercantile may ask the merchant to evaluate whether the item can still be sold at a reduced price or repurposed in another manner. In some cases, a discounted sale may help recover a portion of the value of the item.
Merchants concerned about high-value merchandise are encouraged to consider appropriate insurance coverage or loss mitigation strategies.
Damages (Caused by Merchants)
If a merchant damages another merchant’s merchandise, display fixture, or property, the responsible merchant is expected to compensate the affected merchant through replacement, repair, or reimbursement as appropriate.
This may include:
- Breaking or damaging merchandise while stocking or merchandising
- Damaging another merchant’s fixture during a move or installation
- Causing damage during move-ins, move-outs, or major restocks
- Negligent handling of another merchant’s property
Richards Mercantile management must be notified immediately so the incident can be documented, and a resolution can be made. We encourage merchants to work together for a resolution in a professional manner, and Mercantile management may assist in mediating discussions if necessary.
